Watching Marilyn cook is such a treat. She gives personal stories and helpful hints along the way. Her recipes are beautifully prepared and presented. They are elegant, yet simple. And they are delicious. You feel like you are watching a live Food Network show. One of my favorite times in Marilyn's class was when we did a graduation party for 8 girls. She tailored the recipes to fit their tastes and abilities. They all came away entertained and inspired.

In October of 1996 I went to my very first Marilyn Scher cooking class. As we gathered around the large butcher-block prep table in Marilyn’s state-of-the-art kitchen, I think we all felt right at home. Marilyn was so welcoming. As she began to chop, blend, mince, spin and dollop, we were transported into the world of culinary magic, guided by a very small wizard. Marilyn teaches the “essentials” to perform this magic, from her knife skills to her perfected recipes, from her “ how to make the perfect yet simple vinaigrette” to her “you too can make this luscious chocolate mousse!” If you want the words “ Calvados Tarte Tatin, Crispy Sesame Noodle Pillow, Rum Marinated Swordfish” to roll off your tongue and [those dishes to roll] out of your kitchen then you too should experience a Marilyn Scher cooking class.

Over the years I have attended over 20 classes, watching as Marilyn demonstrated her art. At the end of each class you get the reward of eating everything prepared during the class. When you leave, you leave not only pleasantly full but also with the knowledge of how to shop, select, prep for and prepare the recipes from the cooking class. It’s the perfect gift to give yourself!
